(Not scheduled)
This meeting had no agenda and was totally a freewheeling discussion but it turned out to be very interesting.
Meeting started with Vivek explaining his industrial visit to Microsoft (ouch!) Bangalore. He says that the MS engineers have good opinions about Linux!
Discussion moved on to various browsers and feature comparisons. Discussion was mostly on ad-bursting techniques. FireFox's capability to fetch and render RSS feeds has also been discussed; this is indeed a cool feature to know what happens at Slashdot without actually visiting Slashdot Web site.
From Mozilla the discussion slipped into the OOP features of C++ language. Members shared their experiences and personal opinions about the language features. Most of them had the opinion that C++ has features which are more than necessary. Discussion also compared other languages like Java and .Net.
OOP features of Ruby and PHP have also been discussed. Regular expression and Perl also came into the discussion. We decided to have a talk on regular expressions in a future monthly meeting.
Development methods was another ``debate'' happened in the meeting. Some members supported IDE-based approach and some others talked about using just Vi or Emacs to manage sizable projects.
Discussion slipped to Kernel programming and programming practices. Experience with POSIX API and Pthreads has been shared.
Following are some of the interesting code snippets discussed in the meeting:
Meeting concluded at around 08:20 PM.
